Treating Back Pain with Acupuncture

Back Pain

Heal Back Pain with Acupuncture

"… shoulder is markedly better and mid-back feeling better with each treatment."

I began acupuncture treatment because of back pain.   Specifically, lower mid-back pain and shoulder pain from a pinched nerve. Although I have only been receiving acupuncture treatment for three weeks, my shoulder is markedly better and my mid-back is feeling better with each treatment. Acupuncture has made me feel more relaxed while increasing my energy level.

I have been a chiropractic patient for 20 years. While chiropractic has its advantages, I would often suffer with tight muscles after an adjustment. To date, this has not been the case with acupuncture. I have not experienced any adverse after effects of acupuncture.

I feel my practitioner (Renee Pak) has the experience I was looking for to treat my individual condition. I am very satisfied with my experience at the Acupuncture Center of New Jersey.

"…an effective and low risk/high reward way to effectively manage chronic symptoms that do affect my quality of life."

Like many people, I hold my stress in my neck, shoulders and lower back.  I also work at a computer much of the day, hunching my shoulders. All these issues combine to make it feel at times as if my neck is going to crack off or that I may never be able to live without the chronic repercussions of having a permanent knot under my right shoulder blade.  I was not prepared and am still not prepared to consider surgery or on-going medication to treat these conditions.

I regularly exercise and receive massages but it was not until I found Helen Chen at ACNJ that I realized that a long term solution might exist for my chronic issues.  I began going 3 times a week in August of 2006, followed by about 6 months on a less frequent schedule until I began feeling so good and symptom free that I made the mistake of not going at all for more than a year.

My husband and I were headed for some long flights this past January and a vacation involving cold (two triggers for shoulder hunching) so I began going back to ACNJ.  I try to maintain a schedule of one session per week and while I wish I could do more, I find I am feeling better week by week.  Acupuncture may not be a cure for me but it is an effective and low risk/high reward way to effectively manage chronic symptoms that do affect my quality of life.  Plus, I find Helen’s touch, both for acupuncture and acupressure to be perfect for me.

Back pain is a debilitating and all-too-common disorder that affects millions and accounts for more doctor’s visits, treatment, surgery, drug costs and lost productivity than any other single ailment. Back pain of all kinds interferes with quality of life and is generally a degenerative disease that gets worse and not better with time.

We have treated thousands of patients with back pain and most have found acupuncture and associated treatments very helpful in naturally easing the pain and promoting a return to normal function. Many who have tried other methods -- including pain medication, surgery, physical therapy, chiropractic, etc. -- have turned to acupuncture and have had lasting relief.

By gently inserting sterilized ultra-thin stainless steel needles in painful areas in your lower back and other locations, we can effectively relieve or eliminate chronic and acute back pain. Low back pain is one of the most common disorders we treat and we have seen hundreds of patients find safe and effective relief from low back pain, sciatica, back spasms and other painful conditions. Your back pain may be due to arthritis, stenosis is, disc degeneration, injury, stress, back spasms or other causes. We treat each patient as a unique individual and carefully account for all important factors in your life, from stress to weight to activity level to overall constitution and energy level.

A recent study of over 1,000 patients showed conclusively that acupuncture is a more effective treatment when compared to conventional medical options such as drugs and physical therapy. In many cases acupuncture may help prevent the necessity for serious back surgery.
